The most far-sighted countries have already joined this chase - Germany is developing a "hydrogen strategy", Japan is forming a fleet of hydrogen tankers, Norway is building a plant for the production of electrolyzers, Spain has established the world's largest gigawatt plant for hydrogen production, auto giants are actively implementing fuel cell cars ... This is just a brief overview of the headlines in the professional press of recent.
The reason for such steps is obvious - in a light of increasing green energy the issue of balancing and sustainability of energy systems in some countries and regions is becoming more difficult. "Hydrogen solutions" designed to ensure the accumulation and storage of energy with its subsequent use in any form are expected to solve this problem.
In practice, "excess" of electricity is used to produce hydrogen, which can then be used: - for the reverse process of electricity production - in the chemical industry - refueling of vehicles on fuel cells - instead of natural gas by direct combustion (efficiency is many times higher than traditional fuel)
This way the issue of balancing the power system is removed as such, because the accumulated hydrogen makes it possible to provide the required amount of energy to the grid "on demand".
The issue of financing renewable energy is automatically solved - the load of all nuclear facilities significantly reduces the share of RES in the overall energy balance, and additional income from such activities can painlessly compensate the slightly higher cost of "green" energy.
